What is Hard Anodizing?
Hard anodizing is a special anodizing process. Through oxidation treatment at high current density and low temperature in a strong acidic electrolyte, the oxide layer formed has higher hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Hard anodizing usually uses sulfuric acid or an electrolyte containing sulfuric acid, and forms a thicker oxide layer in a shorter time, which can reach a thickness of 20 to 100 microns. This oxide layer usually appears dark gray or black, with good surface flatness and gloss.
Product characteristics after hard anodization
Extremely high wear resistance: The oxide film after hard anodization has a very high hardness, reaching 600-700 Vickers hardness (HV), making it extremely wear-resistant and can be used for high wear-resistance requirements Applications.
Excellent corrosion resistance: The oxide film can effectively protect the aluminum alloy from the corrosive environment and improve the corrosion resistance of the aluminum alloy.
Good scratch resistance: The surface hardness of the product after hard anodization is improved, which can resist scratches and scratches and maintain the smoothness of the product surface.
Natural metallic silver gray: The surface of the product after hard anodization presents a natural metallic silver gray, which has a good decorative effect and does not require subsequent dyeing or coloring treatment.
Higher heat resistance: The oxide film after hard anodization has higher heat resistance and can withstand higher temperatures without deterioration.
What is the difference between hard anodizing and ordinary anodizing?
Oxide layer hardness: The hardness of the oxide layer produced by hard anodizing is higher, usually reaching 400-700 HV, while the hardness of the oxide layer produced by ordinary anodizing is lower, generally between 150-300 HV.
Oxide layer thickness: Hard anodizing usually forms a thicker oxide layer, which can reach 20-100 microns, while the oxide layer thickness of ordinary anodizing is generally between 10-25 microns.
Wear resistance and corrosion resistance: Due to the high hardness of the oxide layer, hard anodized products have better wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and are suitable for application environments with higher surface requirements.
Electrolysis conditions: Hard anodization usually requires higher current density and lower temperature, while the electrolysis conditions of ordinary anodization are relatively mild and the temperature is higher.
Application fields: Hard anodizing is usually used for parts that require high surface hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance, such as automotive parts, aerospace parts, etc.; while ordinary anodizing is widely used in general industrial products surface treatment.
